An appealing coastal suburb, Stratford is home to a thriving working class community. The town's master plan carefully monitors growth to maintain a well balanced housing market. A handful of interesting attractions make Stratford an attractive community for families. The National Helicopter Museum commemorates the city as the birthplace of the U.S. helicopter industry. Igor Sikorsky, the original developer of the helicopter, founded Sikorsky Aviation in Stratford. His company is still a major employer in the area and the local municipal airport bears the founder's name.
Stratford is also the home of the nationally acclaimed American Festival Theatre and the defunct Stratford Shakespere Festival Theatre which is under consideration for revitalization.
