Redding is one of the nicest towns in Connecticut for quiet country living. Residents have been careful to preserve the New England charm and natural grandeur that have made the town a desirable place to call home. Residents purchased over 1,400 acres of unspoiled countryside in Redding for the express purpose of preservation.
To prevent overdevelopment, zoning laws require two-acre lots for new home construction. Single family homes in a variety of styles and sizes can be found amidst the rolling hills and open meadows. Traditional New England stone fences crisscross through the wooded areas separating many of the individual lots.
Sporting and leisure activities are enjoyed at Huntington State Park, Topstone Park and the Sunset Hill Riding Academy and a private country club offers tennis courts and an 18-hole golf course. Children can learn horseback riding skills at the Lonetown Pony Club.
During the summer months, Sunday evening concerts are performed at the Town Green. Each year the town hosts a fascinating reenactment of a Revolutionary War battle on the grounds of Putnam Memorial Park.
